Traditional Games in Ghana

Ghana has has got several games that at times gives the oral tradition of our history. Some of these games gives knowledge to individuals. Game like Oware is said to be a royal game which is played by royals in Ghana.

Other games like story telling which is sometimes done in the night by an elderly person who normally narrates these stories to the young ones. Unlike oral tradition, these games are passed on from generation to generation. Games like around  "ahw3 wakyere" are all indegenoeus games that put Ghana on the map.

These games apart from serving our recreational purposes also foster unity and togetherness among people. For example, the story telling game it's only the person who tells the story that sits on a chair, all those doing the listening no matter your status or position sits on the floor to do the listening. This enforces the saying that all are equal in the Ghanaian setting which Ghanaians loves very much.

Also it helps to build solidarity among Ghanaians. That is people form lifetime friends and make acquaintances for life during these games. Since it was the only source of entertainment for the youth in the olden days.

Those who were in this era wished we could go back to these games, but in this space where technology and people are enlightened, these games have faded out especially in the urban areas but the local areas still go by it, enhancing how positive our mother Ghana is.
